outline for research paper

Hook: On September 11, 2001 four attacks were launched on our country.
Thesis: Our own government should be blamed not only for the events that happened on September 11, but also for the masking of facts in which the main stream media portrayed to the general public.

Transition: Prior to the attacks, in September 2000, The Project for a New American Century attempted to be launched by neoconservatives.
Evidence: The name of the report was titled Rebuilding American Defenses
Evidence: quote from report
Take Away- The president issued a report that basically forewarned the attacks.

Transition: Many discard this information and decide that our government is not corrupt enough to plan such an event.
Evidence: Operation Northwood’s consisted of a series of covert acts carried out by the CIA to hijack planes into buildings but blame it on the Cubans.
Evidence: This would allow the general public to be anti-Cuban and would give us an excuse to become involved in a war with Cuba, which had recently become communist under Fidel Castro.

Transition: On the morning of 9/11, President George W. Bush was on his way to Sarasota, Florida to support his education policies.
Evidence:  Bush did not leave Booker Elementary School until 9:30am
Evidence: if our country was under attack from an outside source why weren’t more precautions taken to protect the president

Transition: The first attack was American Airline Flight 11, which was the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:45am.
Evidence: these towers collapse is identical to a well-calculated controlled demolition.
Evidence: are the first steel buildings in history to collapse, due to fire.

Transition: Explosives quickly became the common response of people who were inside the building at some point or another during the time of impact.
Evidence: there are unexplained explosions on floors that have not been taken down yet during the direct down fall
Evidence: Molten metal exceeding 2000 degrees Celsius was found in the rubble, which is nearly impossible for just a fuel fire to burn at such a high temperature.

Transition: In December 2000, the assessment of the WTC called for immediate work on the steel columns contained in the elevator shafts in both twin towers.
Evidence: The CEO of the company at the time was Tom Leppert who had closer personal ties to George W. Bush
Evidence: no documents of these actions have been kept nor located

Transition:Securicom later known as Stratosec was the electronic security company, which was backed by a Kuwait American corporation.
Evidence: company was responsible for the security for Dulles Airport, United Airlines and even the World Trade Center
Evidence: the CEO until 2000 was Marvin Bush who is George Bush’s brother

Transition: World Trade Center Tower 6 separates World Trade Center Building 7 from the Twin Towers.
Evidence: On the morning of 9/11 the fire alarm was mysteriously set on “test status” for about 8 hours.
Evidence: Silverstein said, “just pull it” admitting to bringing down the towers.

Transition: At 9:37am, American Airlines Flight 77 was allegedly crashed into the Pentagon.
Evidence: The maneuver claimed to have done by an amateur who never even completed a flight school class was said to be nearly impossible for experienced pilots.
Evidence: the hole created was not big enough to fit a Boeing 757 in it.

Transition: The last of the attacks on this day was seemingly failed when passengers were said to have taken over United Airlines Flight 93
Evidence: neither bodies, nor any marked pieces of the plane were recovered
Evidence: Environmental Resources Management found not a trace of jet fuel in the ground near the crash

Transition: On the day of 9/11, NORAD was on day two of a training exercise called “Vigilant Guardian.”
Evidence: As the attacks unfolded, people who were watching the screens claimed that they thought it was part of the exercise
Evidence: fighter planes were moved from unknown locations in the US and moved to Canada to monitor a Russian air force exercise in the Russian Arctic and North Pacific Ocean.

Research Topic

Throughout my research thus far, my thesis has changed a couple of times.   I have finally narrowed it down to one that will be suitable for my paper.  My thesis statement will be: As Americans, it is our responsibility to demand the facts of what really happens in events such as September 11 and to not just trust the media corporations to give us accurate information.  After searching farther and farther into interviews and eyewitnesses, and even research done on the debris by research scientists, the evidence found did not back up the facts heard through the TV and on the radio.  The way I am planning to set my paper up is to begin by summarizing the events that happened on 9/11, then go into specific detail about different pieces of 9/11 that the general public does not realize.  Lastly I will end with the relationship between the government and the news corporations.  The reader will then have to decide of their opinion of 9/11 has changed.

Sources for 10/10/11

Griffen, David. The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11. Interlink Books: 2004. Print
This source will greatly help my paper because it gives an inside scoop about what was happening behind closed doors during the Bush Administration.  This book investigates exactly to what point did the government know of 9/11 and what are the chances are they could have pulled a coup on their own country. Many people disagree with these ideas however, facts are facts and it is worth investigating.

Norman, Joshua.  CBS News. 9/11 Conspiracy Theories Just Won't Stop. Web. 2011 <http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-20104377.html>
This source will work very well for my counter argument and what most of the general population will argue.  However, this will help me bring to light different facets of my paper that will make the reader not have an argument back to my thesis.

http://www.america.gov/st/webchat-english/2009/May/20060828133846esnamfuaK0.2676355.html (not sure how to cite...no author??) 05 May 2009.
This source addresses all the different conspiracy theories for the different events of 9/11. Therefore, using it as information in my paper will really help my paper.  My only fear is that the source may not be reliable, however it is a government website.  I will have to read the information and look at it in light with other sources to decide if it is reliable or not .

Sources

Zelizer, Barbie; Allan, Stuart. Journalism After September 11. Taylor & Francis, 2011. 2 October 2011 <http://lib.myilibrary.com?ID=324185>

This book is about the coverage of 9/11 on the media.  It is from the perspective of the media corporations.  According to the media, they had to sensor many of the facts that happened on 9/11 because the general public would not be able to handle the level of horror that our country faced on that tragic day. The article then goes on to explain how 9/11 has changed the amount of information the mainstream media portrays to the general public.  This source seems to be reliable because more than one person wrote it.  Also, it is a published book, therefore making more of an academic source than say an internet blog.  However, this is definitely biased because it is defending the media stations in how they handled 9/11.  The first part of the book will help my research paper.  However, the end of the book when it begins to talk about the transformation of what information the media could portray to the public before and after 9/11.

Loose Change. Dir. Dylan Avery. Prod. Kory Rowe, Daniel Sunjata. Microcinema International. 2005. DVD

The movie Loose Change is a movie based on the Conspiracy theory of 9/11.  This movie challenges all of the events that happened on that day and take into account that there are two sides to every story.  Many of the facts that happened during this day were not portrayed to the general public and were withheld either by the government or by the media.  However, there is no excuse for this.  This movie is somewhat reliable.  The kid that made it seems to me knowledgeable about the subject, however, he is using other scientists and experts work and just piecing facts together.  Therefore, he is not the one doing the actual scientific work, making it more reliable.  This information will really help my paper because it puts into the spot light all of the information that the Americans were unaware of.

Research paper Topic

First, I decided to do my paper on a topic that interested me because researching a writing it would me much more fascinating to me.  First, just from prior history classes I decided I would write my paper on some sort of governmental conspiracy theory. I then looked at this webite and began exploring some of the most well known conspiracies.  http://www.carpenoctem.tv/cons/.  I then began looking into the JFk assassination and found it very interesting.  After reading several different theories several websites such as http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1860871_1860876_1861003,00.html,  and began learning more and more.
Then, I became curious if there was any even close to my lifetime that I could research.  I read through the Watergate Scandal with Nixon and then the moon landing, however, soon I found one that was much more intriguing to me.  After reading though several of the stories on this website, http://www.alternet.org/news/147851/top_10_right-wing_conspiracy_theories?page=entire, I found the September 11, 2001 to be the most interesting.
After researching more facts on September 11th, I realized that what the media put on TV was not ALL the facts of this tragic day so I began to realize what exactly I wanted to write my paper on.  As, Americans, we should question our government and keep it in check.  Just trusting them gives it to much power and relying on the media to convey the information only allows some of the real facts to become not only skewed but lost.  I will use facts of September 11, 2001 to prove that the media has a strong hold on the facts that are escaped to the general public.

My thesis statement: The government of the United States of America should be blamed for the masking of facts that were released through the media to the public regarding the exact details of September 11, 2001.

"How do the clothes in your closet make an argument for who you are?"

The clothes in your closet help define who you are.  When you get dressed everyday, you are deciding the image that the world will see you before people have the opportunity to meet you.  There are millions of different ways that people can dress.  If a teach walks into a classroom everyday with gym shorts and a t-shirt everyday, then taking the class serious would be much harder than if they dressed professional.  For instance, girls that dress very revealing, show a little bit of their personality in which people often times will think is provocative.  On the other hand, girls that dress more conservative will not be labeled as promiscuous right away.  Also, the way you dress shows the world your style and how comfortable you are with yourself.  People that have low self-esteem will not wear things that aren’t “cool.”  However, people that are confident in themselves have no problem straying from the ordinary and having their own style instead of following the crowd.

Reflection on picture for 9/12/11

The picture that best represents our generation is one in which a computer has a mouse cord seemingly stretching around the world. Our age band is one where technology has soared.  From cell phones to computers, Internet to IPods, everything seems to change so rapidly.  When asking people from our generation what life would be like without cell phones, computers and the Internet, very few could come up with an answer, or even imagine living in such a way.  The mouse in the picture is linked at far as we can see, symbolizing that in our generation we are united and linked with people all over the world, even father than we are able to see at the click of a button from our keyboard.  The advances in technology seem to change overnight.   Keeping up with the trend seems difficult in a world spinning faster than never before.  There is nothing more iconic in our generation than the conveniences and advances of the Internet.
